    Welly wharf fishing

Took the wee one out for his first spot of fishing today in a beauty Welly day today.
Had his rod and jacket in the car and a bucket of bread for a bit of "no fail" spotty fishing.
So we get there and mix up the bread mush and start spooning it in for burly, whack a squiddy tentacle on the hook and fling it in. Damn not even a spotty
Not even a glimps of one or a single bite.
We used to get pissed off at all the spottys when I was younger????

So does anyone know of a kid friendly place to get a fish on? We tried lowery bay boat ramp wharf and point Howard today. With poor results

Was still a great day in the end with ice cream and fish and chips for lunch but geez. I was really hoping to get somethingName: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1442118922.314397.jpg

    Bloody Awesome @chrome.

Brought back memories of me taking my four boys fishing at the wharf.

We would use the el-cheapo sabiki rigs you can buy from the warehouse and bait each sabiki with a tiny piece of chicken heart.

This was and still is a sure fired way to get a herring on the line for the little fella.

    Cheers
    Pete

Ha yeah was a great day. I will try flys next time but maybe halve the string down for more control.
I'm glad I bought that wee life jacket too.
Makes it easier to relax ha

And just looks awesome. Brought back memories for me from being a kid to.
Just about to take my daughter fishing (just turned 3) to hopefully start another generation of keen fishing folk.....

And a great thing with the life jacket.

We used to fish off the Petone wharf 50 odd years ago as kids, is it still there and are you allowed out on it? Used to go to Central School, now gone, and swimming was on the Petone foreshore, about to get my grandkids fishing this summer!

Yep the Petone wharf is still there and public. I used to fish there maybe 10 years ago middle of winter at night catching barracuda for fun

Life jacket. So cheap too. It's a toddler one but he's 3 1/2 and it's got room to expand. The flap but that makes him roll into his back has a great big grab handle on it and the bum is a neoprene seat thingee. Safe as

    I hear you there.
My kids have them for the boat (of course) and they are bloody great. Strap between the legs so they don't drop right through, grab handles, etc...
Also I only get the ones like yours, with the big pad behind the head to flip them onto their back if in water. (not the jacket/ski ones)

If only every parent put a proper fitting life jacket on their kids, would make one of my volunteer roles redundant.
