No, tis a genuine question. I have never seen it for sale in Nz. I friggin love sashimi!! Had some yellowfin we bought off a local fisho as they call it here, yesty.
Just wondering if anyone knew if it could be purchased on Nz semi regular.
Restaurants must get it somewhere? I have had yellowfin steaks in Wellington.
What is albacore or skipjack like as sashimi? I can catch plenty of that myself.

For sashimi Albacore is OK, Skipjack not so but Yellowfin IMO is king. Cant say Ive tried Bluefin though, and it fetches high prices on the japanese market so must be the business.
Mahi Mahi is called Dolphin in the States. Took a few kiwis aback when the locals mention how nice dolphin was to eat. Also called Dorado (pretty sure dorado is gold in spanish). Really beautiful fish.
I once cut off a submarine at the entrance to Port Everglades bringing in a big bull Mahimahi. Stupid thing surfaced about 500m behind us. Be fucked if I was giving up without bringing the fish in.
Sorry I meant to say mahi mahi in butter on the bbq.mmmm

better then YF ever is. just keep to yourself and dont tell the chings
What is maomao?
I was served fresh Yellow tail mackerel sashimi in a high class japanese restaurant very recently, and I have to say, it was bloody lovely.
Does the Mahi Mahi make good sashimi? Or is it just a cooking fish?
Never seen one in the flesh mate. Swordfish, yellowfin, skipjack and bigeye are all I have had the pleasure of pigging out on in a galley. Maybe they hid the good stuff till I left:D
Heading up the sounds in a couple weeks for our yearly trip. I thought I would impress and cover my bases by bringing up some yellowfin and Mahi Mahi to compensate for my crappy fishing ability.
You should come up for a look Mikee? Gunna annoy the shit out of Sneeze and shoot the shit out of all his steel as well. Bout time some of his plates seen a bullet:D
Based on today's efforts you would be in good company, Myself, Brother and Father were all out fished by my wife (again) but it was a nice day especially since my dad had not had a very good year health-wise.
I don't shoot my own plates, replacements are too expensive even from Briscoe's or the Warehouse. I'm surprised your mate lets you back if you turn up and shoot all his crockery:yaeh am not durnk:
I reckon shooting them, is better than having his wife throwing them at him:thumbsup:
