Wondering if anyone has done a North South traverse in the Kaimanawa and did you go across private land? Do you just prearrange permission or is there a cost? If travelling with rifles is there more of an issue?
Interested in both a Kaweka to Kaimanawa traverse and a North South traverse in Kaimanawa

Used to wander around there many moons ago, at the time travelled thru a few private blocks run by Air Charter Taupo, never had a problem gaining walk thru access, think it would be a different ball game today with Heli-Sika controlling the private blocks.
I think you can get a permit from helisika. Someone on FB just got one to go through the North Arm block, from cascade to Boyd. Not sure if there was a cost.

One piece of advise, spring, summer the time to wander around there, not winter.
Second that. Its wintertime in the bottom of some of those valleys till late November!!!
