Do you think these would be popular in NZ??

I am looking at building a Mud Motor, based on this https://boghogmudmotors.com/

I have looked around and there doesn't seem to be anyone making these in NZ? There are plenty of YouTube clips of the Mud Motor in action and I can tell you, I'm selling my outboard that I use for duck hunting!

Would like to hear your thoughts about these Mud Motors and if people would buy and use them?

most of the waterways around these parts have a rocky bottom where these seem more suited to mud/silt/weeds, i can see the prop would not last long running up and down the apramia.
but with a suitable waterway, i cant see why not.
how dose the power to dollars compaire to a tiller steer outboard?
i have seen these in the past but they always seemed to be bloody noisy.

These would be great for duck boats in the Firth/Kaipara/Kawhia/Raglan etc ...

Hover craft would be better I think

that would be bloody handy in some parts of the river that get very shallow and weeded :D

I have a couple of mud props here, leftover from our flat bottomed punt we used for slow water travel.

Still have a brand new in box 8 hp motor to replace the one that was getting tired.

greghud. I see you point about the rocky bottom waterways but the design has a fin/guard the would skim/hit the rocks first lifting the prop over. The props are cast stainless steel which is supposed to be hard wearing.

I have just brought a 16hp Vanguard V twin for $700. (RRP $1600) Should be no more than $1000 in parts including an imported prop from the US, allot cheaper to build and maintain than an outboard IMO

The engine could be made quieter with exhaust modifications and running the exhaust outlet into the water.

Yep a hovercraft would be ideal except expensive to build and nosier at that.

The reason behind the mud motor and flat bottom boat idea, attached pics of the boat getting over log jams with the mud motor. No blocked out board water pump intake as my mate had on his nice 90Hp outboard while lake edge hunting and chasing pigs in some rough places. The deep v on the boat didn't handle the logs very well :D

Pics show the 16Hp Vanguard and the longtail mud motor in action. Planning on a similar shaped boat build.

dead thread revival I have just bought a maxxon pontoon style cat inflatable, and was looking at a mud motor like the parsun longtail 7.5hp for getting to some hunting/duck shooting areas, I don't see lakes and slack water being a problem but anyone had any experience with how these go in a bit of current ? not talking massive white water stuff just one or 2 places i want to hunt it would be ideal to use a boat to cross a river and i think this could be the ticket.

Yeah they go alright,we used to go up and down some rapids in Alaska no worries.

I have an outboard jet and i would think they would be better, no props to damage.
