Thread: Overnighter around Taupo

Hi everyone,

New to taupo and thinking of trying to get one last decent hunt in before im locked down with a newborn baby due Christmas day. From then ill be on my best behaviour saving up my freedom points for the roar.

Thoughts are Cascade or Oamaru at this stage as I've never been far into the Kaimanawas. Not to worried on shooting anything as thats just a bonus and the freezers relatively full and im more intrested in just getting out and enjoying the nature for a few days.

Any one been in here lately, how long is the walk, any possible side tracks, good camping spots, is it worth the extra slog to head up and over the te irininga track as thats what im thinking & how's the nature compare of the too. It would be a quick in and out 1 or 2 nights max. Or is my time better spent just staying at the end of clements or trying the campsite down tree trunk george rd. Any info would be much appreciated. Walk through poronui to oamaru hut for a night then head to jap creek and fly camp I reakon
