Good luck Thomas. Depending what corps you join you will be able to instruct on all manner of things that are useful to outdoor activities including survivor training when you finish up.
If you want a mechanical skill set when you leave, get a trade. If you want adventure and be a teeth arm (real) soldier join the infantry.
I did a trade then went grunt but I am not sure if they allow that anymore.
Best years if my career were infantry type work.
You need to be fit. If you have any niggles that the medical misses, the Army will beast it out of you in your first couple months. That's if it is still hard. I hear your not allowed to even yell at troops these days. :)
