    Wanted. Advice on mapping programme.

Any suggestions on a good easy to use mapping program.
Want it to measure paddock size. And probably overlay onto aerial photo/google maps.
Need to be simple to use and fairly accurate.

Most local councils have GIS systems on their websites with that functionality.

(Cough cough) Stretch's Super Map (cough cough)

Click on the 2nd square in the top right, start a new measurement, then click on various points on the map, i.e. paddock corners.

Measurements are in acres at the moment. Let me know if you prefer hectares. This measurement is the FLAT 2D area, not taking into account the slope, or any hills etc.

    EDIT: now in metric.

It's got no built-in print functionality (yet). In the meantime, you can:

    A) Try you browser's built-in 'Print' function. Sometimes doesn't handle websites too well, and you may get a crap result. It's dead simple, so worth a shot.

    B) Take a screenshot - there's a button for that on most PC keyboards, then paste the result in Paint on your windows PC. Save as .png or .jpg

    C) Windows 7 and beyond have "Snipping Tool" - you can use this to copy a smaller portion of the image, rather than the whole screen. Other OS's will have their own screen capture tools built in - ask Mr Google.

    D) Mobile devices such as tablets generally have a combination of button you need to press.

@stretch Great bit of map you've got working there, awesome you've added the ability to measure stuff. How you getting on adding the old topomap layers fro mapspast.org.nz ?

No can do on the old maps at this stage. Well, it's POSSIBLE, but too many other moving parts and ideas to nail down first. Updates will be mentioned here as I progress.

yup and I cant download gpx waypoints and tracks anymore, just get redirected to a page with gibberish on it , have to do it manually (find a pen and write down the co-ordinates on a piece of paper produced from a tree that's been cut down) then load those points into memory map or gps

Pay my flights and I'll come up with gear, survey it (cm accuracy), produce you the info and even drawings if needed the. Go shoot a Sika or three and then I'll leave again.
