Kinda begs the question why do the media need permission to film/photograph on public land. What are doc and the govt afraid of ? What have they got to hide ?
And interesting about the 16 new mining permits when they keep bleating on about conservation and saving our forests and environment etc . Were the greens not told about those...?
Thinking also of our hunting programs like Duley's and RSHClub. Showing culled Tahr or Grafs showing the green rain; marine reserves, aerial goose culls. Imagine , who pays for some DOC minion to clamber around the bush and then the fees and censorship issues. YouTube videos by hunters and fishermen; the list and implications are long. Then consider whether other parts of the PUBLIC Service will follow suit?
I detest the use of “conservation estate” ... it’s public land, owned by all and should be for use all. Free and unfettered access.
Not an elitist private reserve to which DOC bureaucrats and minority politicians hold the keys.
get that thru your fucking thick skulls DOC !!
Hunting programs have to apply and pay for a concession to film on public land because they are making an income from their filming, much like a guiding company has to pay for a concession. General public don’t need to pay for a concession to film because they are not making an income from it.
It prob gets a bit murky for the guys with monetised YouTube channels.
But does that mean in future they will need a doc rep with them for 'safety' and to reduce 'cultural impact' blah blah....
we all know how these things esculate when they have a foot in the door...
Remember that saying leave only foot prints take only photos, just wait till even poor ol Joe cant take photos of his trip because it mite show the shady goings on of DOC
Chainsaw, please don't cloister your inner feelings about this subject in lengthy poetic prose...tell us how you REALLY feel:o:o:o
But yeah, its not their land. Its all of ours. They only see it as 'theirs' so they can milk it for all its worth:omg:
DOC : Dozens of Cnuts
It does seem very suspect that anyone needs permission to take photos etc on Public Land.
An attempt to control the Narrative seems the most likely reason.
I note that most of the commentators on the article lean towards that being one of the reasons.
Good luck with getting it changed to any meaningful degree.:(
Just another example of how DOC think they "OWN" public land.
