    African Big Gane Hunting

    Hi all

What are your guys opinions on the hunting of big game in Africa?
In the next couple weeks I plan to go to a Hunting Lodge where they need a hand shooting a few animals to cull the numbers back. Just curious as to what your opinions are, it's a very sensitive topic for 99% of the Western world.
The game I would be hunting are: Springbok, Kudu, Oryx, Zebra, Eland, Giant Eland, Wildebeest, Hartebeest and some other Antelope species. Also on the cards is a Giraffe.
As well as this I would be helping with the hunting of problem Leopard on the surrounding farms as well as Cheetah.

Very interested to know your opinions and would appreciate it if no one loses their rag at me.
    Thanks guys

    Keegan

Go for it. If you aren't sure of other peoples reactions then don't put your pictures on Facebook for all the world to see. Put them up here where we can see them.

Go hard mate. The 99% you speak of think meat comes from peeling back a trees bark and exposing the steak. We here on the other hand know damn well it comes from crushed rocks

I would love to go there and hunt some of the antelope species, especially after talking about it with some of the South Africans I know. I would have no interest in shooting big cats, Elephants, hippos etc but that's just me. Shooting a Giraffe could be a bit sensitive to most, Id be keeping photos of that hidden from the internet.

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

    Cheers guys 👌
When I speak of the 99%, they're the ones that don't actually understand what it's like over here. All the antelope species are being farmed just like cows. In the past 4 months of living here I've only had beef about 10 times and I eat steak probably 5 times a week.

Oneshot, I can understand you not having an interest in shooting the cats, but the ones I'd be hunting have lost some of their teeth and are no longer capable of taking game so they hunt the farmers sheep and cattle, it's a more humane death for them as well as getting rid of the problem for the farmer. As for the giraffe, they pick off the old bulls past their breeding age as they're no longer useful to the herd and just create problems for the herd in terms of food shortages.

I should have said earlier that the hunting lodges are run as a smaller ecosystem and animal kingdom, with hunting taking place to keep the numbers in the correct proportions for the amount of food etc.
The Professional Hunter that I will be working with spends more time studying the game to look after them than he does hunting them.

    Cheers guys

If you're interested in looking at the lodge, Google: Auas Lodge Namibia.
The hunter I'd be with has gone to University and gotten a degree to be where he is, he's just no random mug.
It's actually really very interesting learning about how they do it and maintain it sustainably

As others have said, go for it big time, i have no ethical problem with culling for number control or a problem animal killed to protect live stock, and if i did, it would only be my opinion, impossible to keep everyone happy, its your one and only life,

i would do it in a heartbeat......

sounds like your going to have a great time, I fully understand the reasons for taking out older animals like the cats etc as you explained, and I totally support the reasons behind it, I say go for it. Its something Id love to be apart of but would prefer to be behind the camera on certain species.

I understand man, I know I won't enjoy taking the life of a cat as I would a bull Kudu or Oryx.
But it's life, you're not meant to enjoy everything equally and some things have to be done.
But what I will enjoy is putting the animal down humanely and solving the problem for the farmer.
    Thanks Oneshot

I would go with bells on if invited.
Personally I have never been interested in any African game apart from Kudu. They are a handsome animal.
I work with a SA who now resides in NZ. He raves about the meat and has been promising me Kudu biltong for months😆
He has offered to make some if I send up some venison tho.
Do what ya want! Ya will anyway.
