Bought a single shot rifle from Guncity yesterday and when I looked at the receight it had what I had bought and my name and address. Is this happening across the country? I destroyed it by burning it.

hmmmmm that IS a real can of worms if it got into wrong hands.... @Coop care to comment???
H&F have been recording names and addresses in a log book for a long time.
Have you raised your concerns or discussed this in any way with anyone at Guncity ?
I get the feeling there’s a few wearers of tin-foil hats on this forum. All sorts of businesses record these details these days.
A record such as this has been law for many many years now. All shops must record what they sell and who to. (Sales register) It was retained by the shop/business and was checked by Police every time the dealer license was renewed.
However putting those details onto the receipt could be an issue of the receipt is discarded by accident. In saying that, if you have ever purchased a rifle in the last 20 years or more ,these details would have been required...
.No but this is on a printed receight
Ok, not sure what your issue is. I mean I understand your concern about unwittingly discarding it but......who carelessly discards a reciept that proves how much you paid for a rifle ? Shit even my missus doesn't get to see those :yaeh am not durnk:
Seriously though if your aware of it, it's not an issue.
My awnser about tin foil hat wearers and the number of them on the forum.
No shit Sherlock!
There's heaps of the buggers!

....printing your address on a receipt is redundant. Not looking to promote any conspiracy, poke fun, insult anyone, slander anything (or organization), not looking to enrich someone selling tinfoil,....not looking to spark any debate with anyone's other half..... (have I missed anything - (?))
You know your address, the store knows your address, the Police know your address..... no one needs to print it on an invoice; at least I would have thought.
Only copy of purchases are on my bank statements, receipts go in the pot belly stove. No early morning visitors get to see them.
Ammo too by the way since last year. Though only electronically. So don't be surprised when we ask for your details for ammo.
My advice. If you don't need a paper receipt then request you don't get one. Simple. If you do need a paper receipt then don't lose it.
So the issue is the purchaser may lose the receipt and someone else might find it? Really? Take some responsibility. Besides, don't you keep your receipts for warranty purposes?
I only ever purchased 2 rifles from a store, and I am certain (despite my ageing memory) that I was not asked for an address by the store.

For my 1st tikka purchase my wife gave me her credit card to buy.So the cost didnt bother me,but she never did that again.lols
@Coop, is the address and details on the receipt transactional or do you save them off into a database somewhere?
Details are stored on the company system under your "account".
When a firearm is purchased , or any other items, they too go on your account records.
Gun purchases are also recorded on a paper sheet and collected by police monthly.
Customer details must be recorded or you cannot be sold the firearm, so refusing to supply details kills the sale and you won't be purchasing said firearms.....
As mentioned if do not like details on receipt then don't take one. The sale is recorded on your account with gun details if warranty is required so receipt not needed to prove purchase.
When I started this conversation I just wanted people to be careful about what they do with the paper receipt .
Thanks Coop for that clarification .does same apply to ammo now too as Im due to pickup a couple of pkts of .22subsonics this week before that beloved harlot of Cahills adoration comes on line .BTW-the issue doesnt worry me unduly as ive been aware of it for sometime.
It doesn't matter what you look like @Rushy as long as you can still see clearly ahead and don't trip on any crap in your path you will be fine.
;)
