    South Africa rifle licence

    Hi Guys
Might be stupid question, but may I buy rifle with my RSA licence and if not, I want to bring my RSA rifle to New Zealand.
Step 1 get Export from RSA
Step 2 Import from NZ I hava 30 month work visa.
Why need NZ firearm licence or am I missing something.
But I did my Mountain Safety Course last Wednesday and apply for rife licence, but takes 6 weeks and as men like to buy rifle tomorrow and go shooting on Saturday.
    Thanks
    Charles

If you are in New Zealand, you need a New Zealand firearms License to purchase firearms and ammunition.

A license from another sovereign country has no standing here, for obvious reasons.

If you receive a NZ F.A.L then I don't see why you wont be able to import a rifle from RSA if the appropriate paperwork is filled out. Its quite a simple process from the NZ side, as long as the item imported is classified according to your F.A.L class.

You should be able to get a temporary NZ licence using your RSA licence. I'm not sure how long it will be valid for though. Go and ask the arms officer at the local Police station.

I'm pretty sure that only works at the airport when you first arrive.

Unfortunately as you are already living here, I am pretty sure you will need to wait for your residence visa and apply for a firearm licence then.

When I brought mine over the hardest part was getting the export permit from SA, the rest is easy albeit expensive. For this reason I only brought the family heirlooms with me, the modern ones I sold and have bought new here, saved a lot of hassle and cost.

If it is not a special or sentimental firearm just sell it/leave it there and buy one here once you have your licence.

The written English in the first two posts from this member to date doesn't stack up.

He writes like all the South Africans I worked with in Africa spoke. Imagine us trying to write in Africaans.
