    Accomodation dramas

Well it looks like I've landed a job in Auckland and will be in NZ early February. My problem is we found out today that all our shit will take between 4-6 weeks so that takes us into March with nothing. Do any of you know of a short term rental that furnished around Auckland? Don't care what it is as long as it fits 4 people. We've tried camp sites but no good I'm running out of ideas.

    Cheers Antz

Depending on budget and location needed, the Oaks harbor view, does serviced apartments and are nice, plus reasonable for what you get.

If you need I can loan you a few couches and some other bits and bobs like cookware, a dresser or two, that kind of thing. We camped for 9 months in a rental when we first got here, container took for-fucking-ever

Looked at bookabach.co.nz? For example: https://www.bookabach.co.nz/baches-a...mes/view/30734 $220/night for a small furnished apartment. If you're going to be renting it for a month or so, you may be able to negotiate a lower rate. Just an idea.

Other property sites: realestate.co.nz and Trademe.co.nz/property

    You poor bastard.
This time of year is not good for finding accommodation in Auckland as lots of students are starting Uni, Auckland also has a shortage of housing so rents can be inflated and landlords can pick and choose who they want.

If you will be working in South Auckland you may be better off looking sourhwards and travelling in. I travel into Auckland everyday an hours south and its an easy drive, although depenfing in the hours of work traffic will be shithouse, but then again traffic is terrible in all of Auckland.

Which area of Auckland will you be working in? I know you need to find a place (any place) but the traffic here is crap so you should factor that into the equation.

I can loan you a family set of airbeds, and a camping trunk full of all the kitchen stuff you will need (cutlery, plates, cups, utensils, pots, pans). My suggestion now is to look for an unfurnished place, and get by for a few weeks on borrowed gear.

Next important bit is to determine where your place of work is and get some local advice on what parts of Auckland to focus on and which to 'avoid'.

Shoulf be able to live in the bare minimum of borrowed gear for a the time frame.

Choosing the right area to live in is key, traffic is unbelievably bad in Auckland and some areas are less than ideal to live in.

Unless you are dead set on living in Auckland, seriously consider an exit plan from there, if you don't want to live there forever it'll be easier to leave the less time you are there.

Agreed. Many of us are only in Auckland because we're in niche jobs that are ONLY in Auckland. You're in a more common trade, so look at eventually heading to a smaller town. More hunting opportunities anywhere other than Auckland too.

    Too True...

If you can find out the location of work I might be able to make some suggestions.
