Not anti doc , but this is a bit rough . Am interested if there is a person restriction on that bridge ?

Last checked in june, I'd have thought those things would be 'over engineered'.
    Lucky the river wasn't up.

I was around there in July school holidays.

They often have restrictions on those bridges...

Bloody lucky nobody was injured, 4 people all went in the water...which makes me think 4 people must have been standing together in the middle.

Are not most swing bridges a single person limit?

Yep, every wire rope bridge I have seen is one person limit, glad they are alright.

We dont know of course but I will take and educated guess that 4 of them were in the middle and at least one of them was bouncing or something.
Of course none of them would ever admit that.
I usually let whomever (my family included) get 2/3rds across before stepping on then giving a few bounces to make sure they are awake/its strong enough for me
Seriously the safety factor built into these bridges you would have to be doing something real dumb to bust it.

    OMG Cam, stop talking sense.
Reasonable comment has no place in a story like this.

@veitnamcam, yes...NZRadio interviewed the DOC spokesman and he said they could not just go out and check every swing bridge straight away without having to find out what went wrong...some 500 odd apparently...the tension went...wire does lose its memory...when you look at the construction of a swing bridge and how they are put together you have to ask how the tension could go...if used properly and I do not believe that the average user would be dumb enough to be stupid...unless you want to get hurt or drowned or both...

Addend: I hate the things, they give me the heebeegeebees...I was not born with a decent altimeter...
