    American Bladesmith Society knife test

    Hi,
I thought that might interest some of you.
The American Bladesmith society has a test that the candidates must pass to qualify.
It is a way of recognising the quality of their work and also that the heat treatment of their knife is right.
They have to forge a camp knife, sharpen it once before the test and then go from there.
After all the cutting tests the edge must still be able to shave an arm's hairs.

The bending test is to make sure the knife won't break.

    Enjoy.

To straighten the bent blade would you put it back in the fire and hammer the bend out?

You could, although that bent blade is a proof that the knifemaker entered the club.

Nice, must be heartbreaking to take a blade you work on and then bend it...

Wow, I just watched Kyle Royers "Journey to Master" series on youtube. He made his billet over 440 layers.... His first test knife passed those tests and then he bent it back and forth 11 more times before it broke. Bloody amazing work.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.
