    Ammo ID

I finally tracked down the missing 7.62 military ammo from when I went to aussie. It was at my uncle's even though he said he didn't have it when I asked him ages ago. Was only 300 too-thought there was more but no biggy.
Anyhoo after talking to a friend he asked me what it was.
I dug it out and it is marked KHF 0053 on the box and HF on one side of the head stamp with 7.62 on the other.
I'll put happy snaps up if required. What breed Is it and what weight etc?
    Cheers

Most likely 147 grain L2A2 not sure if the 53 is the year, cos that's bloody early if it is

Don't know about the box label but the cartridge headstamp may be Singaporean 1989.

cases are in fantastic nick if they are 50's issue
IF the details on the ammo box they are in is correct, it is marked Australian defence force. Not ADI though

Pretty sure KHF is Indian manufacture
Cats have nine lives-which makes them ideal for experimentation...

Initially I thought Indian as well.

    Here's a reasonable reference that I have used b4.

Cheers @zimmer the markings on the box match up. Head stamp is missing the K though
    Couple of happy snaps

Got a bunch of mixed military 303 rounds other day (shouldn't have but cant give them back now). That reference will be good to work them out I spose

most nz 7.62 was loaded via Odin _aka winchester australia IIRC.Hmmmmm wonder if green band on heads+for GPMG belts-RUSHY you there Are you familiar with this.I do rember every 5th gpmg ball round was tracer -denoted by red tip on slug.
the reason i say is in my TF time we always collected brass after shoots for RTU and on to aussie for reloading ,but also ive heard of more than one shooter having probs with ex MI Lsurp ammo that has been through MGs previously -the auto action tends to chew the shit out of cases.
actually speaking of ammo -was CQMS for a w/e shoot a west melton range in latter stages of my 2rnzir TF career .was tasked to do an ammo resupp -bought it from magazine to the butts -opened tins up to start refilling mags -fuck me 3 tine had rounds whose slugs wobbled like a hookers tits or pointed off at 45'angles.
apparently the ammo boys at burnham on becoming aware found a lot more defects too which did not enhance transtasman relations!

My rifle club had a stock of Singaporean and German MEN a few years back for use as club ammo (visitors, members who had forgotten their own).
IIRC the Singaporean was v good. The MEN was steel projectiles with copper wash. I don't recall what the Singaporean projectiles were. @csmiffy check yours with a magnet.

Unless bullets are made of the same stuff that those "magnetic copper bracelets" for arthritis are made of.

The big question now is do I keep it and shoot it in the 308 project I have or sell it and get more useful ammo.
GC have military surplus 308 ammo. 348 bucks for 300 rounds so wont get any more than that.
OR do the Mexican reload and pull the military projectile and wack a decent 150gr sporting bullet in there.
    Not ideal though
