Hi everyone so the photo top right was my first 'peek' of the Antarctic peninsular, volcanic basalt structures, and very dramatic they were, that was one of my best shots of them....

bottom right was our ship, the Ocean Diamond, and a real gem she was, the photo next is my cabin, we were hardly 'roughing it'.....

top left is a piece of 10,000 year old ice (maybe older, maybe younger, who knows?) we melted that and had it with 12 year old scotch.... definitely 12 years old!!!!!!

Scouser you are a fukin legend. That would have to go down as one the the finest things achievable in life

Now where are the rest of the pics and a story to go with them from when you first left our fair shores?

    Hi Scouser
My Antarctica was a little differant. It is truly a fantastic and other world type of experiance. We were on the ice for 2 months and drilled 940 meters into the ross seabed. There was 50 ton of rig and equipment sitting on 2 meters of sea ice and 300 meters of water below us 18 km off the coast at Cape Roberts.

OK, heres some of Pengy's clan....there were 3 species of Penguin we were expected to see, Gentoo, Chinstrap and Adelie....

the lad (?) on the left is an Adelie, (white ring around the eye) we were supposed to go further south where they have their colonies but we couldnt get through the ice (global warming my arse!)

the handsome pair on the right are Gentoo, (red beak & white 'ear muffs') they were everywhere and very vocal....when approaching a colony you would always smell it first, then hear it and finally be 'in it'

a lone Chinstrap underneath....these guys provided all the comic relief.....

we were allowed about 5 meters from the colonies.....

Chinstrap and Gentoo colonies, i could not believe how far & high they where from the coast, when you compare their legs and strides to ours it was a marathon and Everest every trip to the nest!!!!!!

You are definitely a man of few words Scouser. I have waited a long time for this meagre morsel of information about your trip. Burst forth and run free at the mouth as it were!
