    attention jetboater hunters.

    For any members who have a jetboat but not a member of the NZ JetBoat Assoc, please be aware of proposed new ECAN rule changes on jetboating in Canterbury.
    It has been bought to my attention that the ECAN 2016 draft bylaws have a clause in Appendex 1 that potentially affects non JBNZ member jet boat owners:
    "Open Speed Areas (OSAs) for Canterbury Rivers
    (1) The Open Speed Areas listed in Table 1 (below) are Reserved for:
    (a) members of Jet Boating New Zealand Incorporated (JBNZ);
    (b) a person holding a Temporary Reservation approved by the Harbourmaster under clause 12(2) of the Bylaw;
    (c) vessels operating under a Maritime Trans
    port Operator Certificate or equivalent
    Maritime New Zealand certification."
    Basically, if you are not a JBA member, or comply with b or c above, then legally you will be breaking the law if you go on an open river (Rakaia, Waimak, Waitaki, Hurunui etc) at more than 5kts.

    Sounds like a load of crap to me, its a bit like saying anyone whos not a member of the AA cannot exceed 50kmh on the open road. Good luck to them trying to get that through, and if they do, good luck to them trying to prosecute someone for breaking the rules....

    Those interested need to open the link.

    See "Attachment A" "Table 1 " page 30 to 32 for the rivers involved. And its all the bigger jetboatable rivers.

    JBNZ will have submitted to the draft process and that will have been included in this document because no one else made any submissions that were different.
    That's the way the process works.

    Someone needs to make up a form "Submission Letter" for anyone to use "that seeks for that provision to be removed form the Bylaw"

    Submission close 5pm May 2nd.

    Further reading into it

    Section 20 dictates that all vessels shall be identified. And this includes all vessels boating a lake for pleasure purposes…
    20 Vessels to be identified
    (1) No person shall navigate a vessel unless it displays an identifying name or number displayed above the waterline on each side of the vessel by the owner of the vessel:
    Lots of sub paragraphs of what that can be – but at the end if you don’t have membership of a suitable sporting body as nominated from time to time (subclause IV) then it must be the registration of your boat trailer…
