You should do a misson down towards Queenstown and visit Swift Fly Fishing down the road in Wanaka, making their Epic flyrods on kiwi built CTS blanks. There's also Stu's Fly Shop in Athol which will be very much worth the effort.

Not really knowing what a Steelhead was, I watched this and the first fish I saw I thought "that's a rainbow". After watching the rest of it I guess it was?

I had a crack at fly fishing when I was about 15, even had some success. It is definately an art though!

Steelhead and Rainbows are basically the same. The main difference is Steelhead are like Salmon and spend the bulk of their lives at sea, coming up river to spawn.

Yes American name for a Rainbow that has been sea-run and returned to the river it was born in

Is that Stus Fly Shop a random little shop in the middle of nowhere? Name rings a bell, cant remember where (I dint know where Athol is!) but I remember we saw this little fishing shop in the middle of nowhere and had to stop to take a look and he was very well stocked, had tonnes of stuff in there, everything you could think of!

Ok. Second fish looked quite different. Much more silver? I assumed that was the Steelhead or were they the same?

Ive never been but what you descibe sounds about right.
Hes a Pom but been around for years. He also ties the best flies bar none. I buy pretty much all of my flies from him.

Ive not watched the video so not sure but a fresh run fish from the sea will almost always be VERY silver. They colour up once in the fresh water. Unsure why though. Even our searuns here out of the Tukituki are a beautiful silver.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !
