I work at the Port of Tauranga where the CruiseShips dock. A number of years back a 40' reefer container was popping and banging. 100K US of beer and wine had been set to -18 and was thawing out all went into the skip bins some of the wine was 4k per case

Was the contractor supplying the ship. His hands spent a lot of time on his head. Costly fuck up and they didnt have a shit show of getting more. Odd thing is not a lot of the supplies they take on are from NZ, even a lot of the fresh food is imported, go figure aye.

I did see a 40' of toilet paper go onto the same boat so figured it was full of Americans

I should have read it properly "cruise ship" - containers going on, not off. My mistake. Poor bastard. Especially as he couldn't hide it.

I remember as teenagers a truck full of beer overturned just north of Taupo, past Wairakei. The insurance company wrote the lot off, so a contractor was hired to dig a hole in the paddock nearby and bury the lot. For the next week every man and his dog was out there, half of taupo called in sick to be there. It was like an archeological site, all marked out with sticks as each bottle was excavated carefully by hand. I recall the tub of my Mazda ute flush to the top with dirt covered speights, and a vl commy wagon with only enough room for the driver, every other space fille with bottles. Great memories

I remember when there was a spell LION competition. A train with a load heading West from here was slightly delayed in the Otira tunnel and came out with a lot of bottle tops missing. The competition got cancelled.
