Best place in NZ to live?

Another I'm bored/lockdown thread. Where is the best place in NZ to live? I know most of us would be thinking some small, isolated island right now, but I mean in normal times.

I moved to Northland for the fishing (exceptional), diving (pretty good) and climate. It rains quite a lot (not this year!), but doesn't get that cold. I hate the cold. Downside is the hunting is crap.

Geographically, I think somewhere in the Tauranga area would be a good balance of fishing and hunting opportunities, but was just listening to a show on the radio about how the city itself is in meltdown due to rapid population expansion.

    Oamaru or Waimate.

Curiously both towns harbour a deep hatred of one another which is peculiar as Timaru despises both Waimo and O town equally.

Shhhss - don't tell to many
Yes - I just sent message to my rich siblings living in million $ pads in BOP - AKL
Think I can say for 1st time that here in Sounds comes out on tops - not in $$ but logical location survival sense
Our property - no BS - has not increased in value over this boom.
We are still not back to a 2007 level - way off it
But ha - maybe its catch up time ?

We are due for the valuation to be updated this year .
It will be interesting to see what happens to our GV property values in this current situation we are in .

Top of the south somewhere would suit me. Somewhere to go for a good fish and the wind ain't always blowing like mad from some direction.
