"THE BLOCK" health & safety ?

Now I hate this "balls to the wall" last minute shabby finished bullshit type programs, but my 11yo loves it so I watch it.

I'm a tradie & while the latest "health'n'safety" are a bit over the top, Best just to do things by the book & comply but I've noticed that there's plenty of situations on "the block" tv programme that are really basic breaches eg no eye protection, not using scaffold properly etc. Now I know that the contestants aren't getting paid as such but surely they should have to obey the rules or tell the producer "don't show it bro"

I know I sound pedantic , but if I have to play the safety game why not a multi million dollar production ?

Id love to see Worksafe all over that. Fair call too.

Wait till an accident really happens and work safe will be on their ass in no time if they have not acted already...

That would be the best thing to happen to that program, not an accident but the Worksafe Invasion. I would pay to watch that

I don't bother watching it as it pisses me of to much. Bad for the industry in general with unrealistic times to complete works in a tradesman manner. I've never seen a gib stopper or tile layer be able to do what they do in one night

Im a health and saftey rep for a large construction company i cant watch that show without cringing, how do they get away with it? Warner bros are the company behind it and now the PCBU i would have thought being an american company? They'd be all over the h&s side of things! Basic shit like sanding plaster with tee shirts tied over their faces.
Shows the diy public its ok to be lax about safety

I have never seen a stopper wear any face protection here when sanding.

lol yeah remember being on a job in the early 2000's with an old boy stopper with a big wolly beard, never used a mask & looked like Santa at the end of each day, fuk I wonder if he's still kicking

I had a discussion with a fulla ( mid 30's ) grinding a concrete floor last year, on his knees using a large hand grinder prepping a floor for painting, he had no eye or breathing protection. I said WTF you doing bro! his response was that he's been doing it for years & smokes plenty of ziggys so won't live pass 60 anyway. I bet he might regret that when he's 65 coughing up blood while holding his grand kids. How fucking stupid & naive

I'm not a H&S nizi, But sensible guys wear a mask etc

That goes for the painting too. I don't watch crap tv of this kind, but from what little I have seen, it would be interesting to go back on the projects 2 years down the line and see how it has stood up.
My guess is not very well at all.
