Back then, almost the very last thing we wanted to do was to still be living at home without a job. We wanted to leave home, have a job, get mobile with wheels either two or four, make our own way in the world, marry up by finding a girl who was smarter than us, and keeping a job despite it being tough, because that's what men did. And I know, because I was there, many of the guys who needed stitches after a Saturday game or a Sunday party told me "forget the anaesthetic doc, just go ahead". And they toughed it out even though they had the option of 'numbness'.

These days, boys are increasingly raised by an incredibly feminised and fully-taxpayer-subsidised bunch of irresponsible solo mothers. They are bias-miseducated by an incredibly feminised bunch of schoolteachers of all the currently-acknowledged sexes. And if they don't go in the right direction = learn a trade (by luck more than by sound careers advice) they are then lectured to for 3 to 6 years by a bunch of wimpish, over-feminised, testosterone-deficient, oestrogen-poisoned university lecturers. Especially the males. And yes you know who you are.

No wonder we are completely f***ed as a society when Genter and Ardern and Shaw and (special mention for the Genocidal Maniac Defending and Worshipping) Golriz Ghahraman are driving current policy.

    /rant off.

Aye, I know that, but a Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II actually, the plane designed around a gun—its 30 mm GAU-8 Avenger rotary cannon. The foot soldier's savior from many a sticky environment with a fly by and a loud BBRRRRRRPPPPPPPP. All fixed..

God's know why the Yank bean counters tried to scrap them to pay for the F35 but then they are American bean counters and think in strange and mysterious ways. At least they lost that fight and the Warthog still lives on, strong as ever..

It was a confusion of ideas between him and one of the lions he was hunting in Kenya that had caused A. B. Spottsworth to make the obituary column. He thought the lion was dead, and the lion thought it wasn't.

@Kiwi Sapper. Yessir. You don't design the gun for the airplane. You design the airplane for the gun.

When I'm doing hiring interviews, I follow the same principle albeit on a completely different and more metaphysical plane. I don't change the job description and the requirements for patient interaction, according to whoever presents for the interview; the interview centres around what is needed for the patients, and if the current interviewee can't hack it (or increasingly these days, don't want to do it because they are hugely focused on "worklife balance") they are politely thanked and ushered out the door.

I can't see the problem with that approach, although HR very possibly may have a different point of view... but reality is full of flaws. Sigh.

Nah, it’s the giant porcupine fish between your legs that hurt and make you walk like a cowboy with rickets that hurt.

That and your ‘mates’ constantly saying ‘howdy pardner ’ when ya walk towards them all spraddle legged.
