Anyone tried some of the cheap greenhouse kits available?

You'd be better to buy some decent plastic from Redpaths and knock up a wooden frame yourself. The plastic on the cheap and nasties from the Warehouse, M10 etc. don't last, they deteriorate very fast.

Ally frame would be better than the thin metal powder coated ones, but I would imagine the polycarbonate wouldn't have a very long shelf life?
Built in a sheltered spot, shaded from the hottest midday sun it would probably go for a few years.

Tried one of those that you linked to. Put it in the most sheltered corner of the garden and it blew to bits. Poly carb flexes to much in the framing and pops out. Duct taped them back in and it helped but it died withen a year

Interested to know as well, I had a look at one a year ago and it seemed ok made and the "poly carbonate" panels are corrugated and seem to provide a little insulation also.

Do not buy one of those!! My dad brought one and he lives in wellington so he specifically asked about how it would stand up to wind, the guy selling on trademe said yup all good. It started to fall apart amd the guy didn't wanna know about it

I suppose it depends a lot on how high and what you plan to be growing in it.

Mate's wife got her hands on a bunch of ex school science lab glass fronted cabinets. Has them lying on breezeblocks, glass facing up, against the sunny side of the garage. Uses it to start tomato seedlings off, strawberries, that sort of thing. Will be doing chillies this year too thanks to @stretch. Has a few holes with mesh over them to allow air in and keep thrushes etc out. So long as what ever being grown doesn't need to be more than approx 70cm off the deck.

Got a cheapo one of 1day a couple of years ago. Lasted a month in a sheltered spot. The plastic joints are brittle.

Higher price bracket but I put one of these up for the better half a month ago. We are in a very high wind zone, so far so good.

I've got a redpath 9m tunnel house and am happy with it. Farm Owner bought one of those trademe ones and hates it
If my work annoys me, I cull them

NZ made, I have one of these, bought second hand a few years back, has a few holes from the fabric rubbing on the frame but it is still very sound.

Hey that's a nice design I could make one similar without too much fuss.
