    Check your hunting gear

Am going Kaweka with the Rem Mag and Mercator for a few days, having laid everything out for inspection I went over it all to make sure it won't fail in some way.

Checking all zips is my first step and I came across this

    Poxy piece of crap zip

No more shit packs for me, prob the 4th that's broken lately..... now I have to find someone I don't like and give them a free pack

    Am ringing Cactus tomorrow

Really like the Cactus " Huntaway"

    Taking my old Macpac tomorrow

It pays to check your gear, would hate to leave gear strewn out behind me

Those zips don't seem to have YKK on them! A lot of them are self mending and if you wrestle them back far enough they will work again. I preferred the big chunky zips that handled being frozen better.

I see that Cactus make a rifle scabbard for the side of their packs like the Huntaway. Would be handy in that snow battered Kaweka bush while you cleared and cut your way through?

Cactus have just opened a shop in Wellington.

That looks like most Ridgeline zips I've seen, except the toggle is still attached.

I don't trust any zip unless it says YKK on it.

In servicing all the Bambi buckets at work over the winter, I managed to fix a lot of the zippers on the carry bags. Compressing the zipper with pliers worked pretty good once you get them feeding into it properly again. By no means a permanent fix, but hopefully they last for another season. There's a few YouTube videos about it, which explains it well.

When gutting a deer you should always start with the arsehole and work your way up. It's the opposite of marrage.
