    Christchurch Canterbury Meet up

Well, I've just moved down from Canada for work and I don't know a soul in the whole southern hemisphere, so figured I'd see if anyone in Christchurch and area want to grab beer and food and talk guns, hunting, fishing etc.

I don't know where's good to go but for some sort of planning's sake let's say Friday June 2 somewhere around Riccarton. Suggestions are most welcome.

Good on ya Canross. Come on you inbred bunch, meet this man for a beer. GM you can go but for Crissakes stay up wind of the beer man.
    gadgetman and Gibo like this.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Yes Rushy, at the Toby shoot I always checked the wind direction and tagged onto the windward end of any group.

It's a right bugger really. I never used to go into pubs, other than the odd run in and out for work, because of the smoke. Now they are smoke free I can't go in because of the alcohol fumes. Can't win.

    Welcome to godsown @canross.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

The local NewZealand Handloaders club has 500 (ish) members, and they have a public night each Tuesday. Thee is normally a bunch of shooters out there particularly at the shotgun range. As a member, I am sure you will be welcome. Macleans Island road, every Tuesday at 7pm. There is a Deer stalker club next door as wel but I dont know much about their times etc.

Im working on the 2nd, but may be able to te up another time.

    Welcome to Chch

Hi, I just reread my post and cannot edit it. the comment "As a member, I am sure you will be welcome. Macleans Island road, every Tuesday at 7pm." is probably better written as "I am a member and I am sure you will be welcome to come out on a Tuesday and meet some of the guys and gals. Especially around the shotgun range where most of them will be talking most of the evening. If shotguns are not your thing, it wont matter, most of us shoot rifles as well. You dont have to be a member to pop out on a Tuesday.

There is a charge for non members to use the shotgun range ($5 per round of skeet- 5 stations twice and $20 for the rifle range) but there is no charge to come out and socialize.

It looks like this weekend there're less people than would normally be able to make it, so I may do another soon as well. We did the occasional meetup for the forums in Canada and it was always a great time.

Should add that beer/pubs aren't a strict requirement for meetups - anywhere with good food is great for a meet-up.

Looks like I'll definitely have to arrange another event with more warning - it's always a blast to get people together to talk hunting and guns.

Sounds great - good that the range has a public night, it's hard for people to get involved in the shooting sports when they never get an opportunity to try it. That's one of the main issues in Canada - the community is insular and is slowly shrinking as more people don't grow up shooting.

Looks like the club's out past the airport, so I'll have to beg a ride from someone - even with the bus to the nearest point it's a 5 km walk around the airport to get there.

I will keep in touch. I will probably go onto Tuesdays off soon so may be able to sort something. If you do meet a member, we are also able to take guests to the range to use the rifle range outside of these days.
