    Computer Help Needed

Are there any Computer Savvy Members here that can help with this issue.

My laptop has been down since Friday because the "C" drive "Active Time" is maxed out at over 100% which is causing the laptop to slow to an unbelievably slow pace and even freeze totally.

Took me two days to figure this much out.

I have completed a refresh which has helped but not solved the issue.
A side effect of this is I have lost all my applications and will have to reload them at some stage.

Luckily I have saved all my documents to an external hard drive.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Forgot to say I'm running Windows 8 on a Toshiba Satellite

    Cheers
    Pete

What do you mean by 'refresh', how did you do it? (eg.. stuck the disc in and re-installed windows? or restored your laptop to an earlier date through 'system restore'?)

depends what you did but if there's no files left in 'C:\Users\[your username here ]\mydocuments' then its been wiped and there's nothing there.

if you can see some files there or you can see your applications in 'C:\Program files\[all your old applications]' then its just been a reinstall of windows and all your files are still there.. the buggar about that is windows is missing the extra settings that go along with the applications (windows registry). these may or may not work by just making a new shortcut to the application (eg. "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe") you wont know till you try. i would just start reinstalling stuff as you need (however you did it in the first place, downloading or installing from cd..)

not really much help aye but let us know how you refreshed the laptop and then ill be able to tell you what state its in

    Thanks for the reply

    I refreshed following this link

How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC - Microsoft Windows Help

Refresh your PC without affecting your files.

My files are still intact but the applications that I have downloaded since new have gone.

It's no big deal to reload them.

I need to reload Outlook Express to get my email back online too as I don't like using the Mail client loaded in windows 8

The refresh has got me up an running again but the "C" drive active time is fluctuating between about 90 and 100% at the moment.

Computers do my bloody head in.

    Cheers
    Pete

Load the shotty Pete and shoot the bloody thing. Won't help your computer any but it will make you feel good. In fact video the process and we will all get a bit of a hoot out of it.

This laptop is about six months old too.

Lots of talk on the internet about this issue being a fatal Hard Drive issue.

BTW the "C" drive active time is currently fluctuating between about 0% and 15% at the moment.

    Go Figure!

    Cheers

try deactivating the weekly disk defrag that windows 8 has set by default which can be turned off in the optimise drives tool and try changing the power plan from balanced to high performance and see how that goes.

Looking around on a couple of sites the general consensus does seem to be that its a hardrive issue 100% active disk usage [Solved] - Laptops - Windows 8.
If you have access to something like 2.5 Enclosure ESK78 | Trade Me you could remove the harddrive from your laptop and plug it into another computer to backup files and check the drive for errors to definitely know i that is the issue.

Yes that is one of the sites I read that helped me identify the issue.

I will take it to the shop tomorrow to have them check it all out.
