    Unhappy Courier's & shipping firearms.

I had a bit of trouble today with two courier companies and thought I would let you guys have a laugh!
I have changed the name of the company’s so they don’t get upset.
I packaged the rifle as per normal, inside a cardboard box and then wrapped in brown paper – addressed to the happy buyer in location X.

The first company I will call “slow ways” and the conversation when like this:

Me: I would like to ship this package to location “X”
Slow ways 1: No problem I will work out a price for you
    Me: Thanks
Slow ways 2: Is that a firearm in there?
    Me: Yes, a rifle
Slow ways 2: Is the bolt in with it?
Me: Yes, where else would it be?
Slow ways 2: We can only ship it if the bolt is sent in a separate package.
Me: Bullshit! So every rifle you deliver to the sport shops in town has the bolt in a separate package?
    Slow ways 2: YES
Me: Thanks, I will use another freight company.

The second company I will call “Kiwi couriers” and it when like this:

Me: I would like to ship this package to location “X”
(As I pass it to the girl I see a sign on the counter advising me of the things I need to declare, bugger there is a photo of a firearm!!)
Me: Oh yes, it’s a firearm.
Kiwi Couriers: Does it have the bolt with it?
Me: No it’s a break open shot gun (That will fuckem!)
Kiwi Couriers: It needs to have a trigger lock and the keys will need to be sent in a separate package.
Me: Fuck me, I will use another company! (Walked out the door thinking WTF!)

I then dropped it off to my mate at the local sports shop and asked if he could send it for me, $20.00 and it’s on its way!

Does anyone know what the legislation says in regard to shipment of firearms? I am keen to take this problem up with the local arms officer just to find out the Police point of view.

    Cheers
    Kokako

So next time you should drop the barrelled action out of the stock , wrap both stock and action individually in bubblewrap then put it a cardboard box and wrap well . Now you have a parcel that doesnt look like a firearm , and you dont tell them what the parcel is , unless they ask.

    No hassles.

because the world is too gutless to tell people to get stuffed with all this political correctness and bureaucratic bullshit . And in consequence common sense has disappeared because people are too scared to speak out against this stupidity , therefore the stupidity continues unabated.

Alternatively you need to find a local business that is an agent for a courier company and drop your parcels off there , bypassing the main office and avoiding at least some of the bullshit that companies think we need to protect us from ourselves.

For what its worth,I've never had a problem with fastways and they normally guess what it is but have never asked about the bolt etc.

I use fastways and haven't had a prob, but after having had them tell me that they do carry rifles, I don't bother telling them when it is one.

I always use Fastways, just make sure it doesn't look like a rifle, ie don't send it in a gunbag with some tape on it......

They nearly stopped shipping rifles a wee while ago, there was a massive stink behind the scenes, apparently they "lost" a $7K rifle for a little while, massive grief all round.
At least it turned up & they saw sense but it was a close run thing I was told.

    Hi Greg,

As per normal it was a plain brown paper wrapt cardboard box!

How are you lungs after that last trip? So nice photos.

    Cheers
