    Kudos Pete.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Found this pic of my dad in a book, pretty proud of him.

Attended the dawn parade this morning and laid the wreath.

Awesome turn out in Hastings for the Dawn Parade.

Weather was warm and dry, guest speakers were easy to listen too.

The March from the cenotaph to the Hastings RSA was well attended.

Standing room only at the RSA after the parade and the breakfast was the best yet.

    Top effort Hastings RSA

Went down to the cemetery and laid a poppy on my grandfathers grave, Trooper John McMurtrie Auckland Mounted Rifles 1st NZ Expeditionary Force.

Bit of a rest then I'll be firing up the Fat Boys Couch and joining the HB Ulysses on their annual ANZAC Day Ride raising funds for the St Johns Ambulance Service leaving the National Aquarium at 13:00

    Cheers
    Pete

Remembering the old guys I knew from the Second World War and semi understanding what they endured makes me emotional even today, they were brave, brave men. I've gained more respect for them as time has passed. From one that has never been involved in any conflict or served in the army. I've lived in great freedom, thanks doesn't go near their sacrifices

Whitianga was a good service!!! Getting up early is hardly a sacrifice when you consider what the soldiers went through for us! The last post is a haunting bit of music, played well sends a shiver through ya!

Good on you Savage1. Talk about there only being a couple of degrees of separation. I served with the guy side on behind your father. The one with the moustache. Now it will bug me all day to remember his name. Jerry?

Although I don't go to the Dawn Service, I grew up like most people my age with al lot contact with close family friends who served in WW2, my grandfather was deaf so not fit enough to serve. One was a Spitfire Mechanic, another drove a mine clearer, another was a foot soldier. All served in the Pacific. They were quiet unassuming guys who only occasionally talked about their experiences.

Some of our politicians would do well to remember what a legion of good man gave their lives for.

Freedoms which some politician's seem to happily trade away.

I watched an interview with the Co-Leader of the greens yesterday and she had a white poppy pinned OVER the red one we all know. Made my blood boil...
