    Drift dive Sunday.

We're doing a drift dive from fisherman creek (entry point below pupu springs) down to the Takaka river bridge this Sunday.

Dive time will be about 2 hours, no diving of pupu springs. ( no diving of the springs is allowed)
Meet at Takaka bridge at 12 Sunday. So we can shuttle people up to the car park pupu springs.

Water temp will be about 12 c , gloves and booties and hood recomended. No weight belts required, novice to experienced level of abilty will enjoy this dive. PM any questions

I'd love to be there @stingray

Unfortunately I'm stuck at the other end of the country.

Have done a number of drift dives down the Waikato from the flood gates to just before the Huka falls.

    Have fun

    Cheers

Na they closed it to diving, on the pretence of spreading didimo and cultural sensitivity, if I recall correctly.
Still a will be a neat swim , haven't done it in years and it will be lis's and Co first go at it. Really looking forward to it!

    @Munsey

It generally pays to get out of the river before the falls, but that's optional.

The huka can be a bitch of a mistress that will whip you senseless leaving you all tied up and out of breath and that's just not cricket now is it.

    Drift diving rocks.

    Cheers

I believe I dived in Pupu Springs once ..................... back in the day.

    Yes the Viz is amazing.

Have you dived Pania in the Hawkes Bay?

That's where I learned to dive.

The vis there is also amazing.

Amazing you can see anything that is ....... as you stretch out your arm your fingers begin to disappear in the gloom.

Plenty of crays to hunt if your up to it, just got to get in close to see them.

    Cheers

Short story ... Low water flows so fins off walk , fins on swim etc ... Until we got into the narrows where lis got shot into a snag it took more than a sec or two to get her free .. Freaked the fuck out of us both. Took the gloss of the day a lot.

Go pro videoed bugger all (our fault), it would show tyres ,plastic bags and crap down, in what should be a pristine river , even at the carpark at the Takaka river bridge some fuckwit had just dumped off a trailer / van full of crap.

Still a very beautiful place , a bit more water would have allowed us to chose better lines. Beer was cold and the company up beat which made it a wicked day. TBH no rush to do it again, crays and spearing is where it's at for me.
