Wobbled for a long time in CHCH. Not violent, but just about needed sea legs. Very disconcerting as it seemed to change direction a lot. Seemed to go on for minutes so I said to the wife I thought it woul dbe much bigger and further away than it was. Apparently 20km from Hanmer.

Thought I'd had too much to drink again, and went back to sleep.

Rocked me in my sleep like a baby. Phone call immediately after the first woke me up. Thoughts go out to all who have suffered from this event.

Woke us all here in Rotorua. My sister is hoping like hell the batch is ok after the waves have hit as they're right on the road edge.
Condolences go to the families who are in trouble.

Just reading elsewhere that Kaioura is cut off by massive slips. Any one confirm?
May be time for the good old Kiwi spirit to kick in and help them out if need be
