    Electric Welding

Made a few suspension components for my caravan a few weeks ago

The Arc welder really works well when the parent metals to be joined are not as clean as they could be

Anyone else enjoying their welding with whatever type your using ?

I enjoy it but am well out of practice. Think my arc rods are a little damp too, they sizzle.

I always store my arc rods in the hot water cupboard. That helps

About the only welding I still enjoy is the odd time I get to wind the tig up to 300 amps pulse with 3.2 316 filler rods.

This is a thread with far too many big words. I knew I was pissed off when I left my ex but I didn't know the full phrase was hydrogen embrittlement.

    Yep

It's always a satisfying feeling to successfully join two pieces of metal together in a professional manner, what ever welding method is used.

It's particularly satisfying when the degree of difficulty due to the position of the weld or the technical difficulty is increased.

My favourite welding method will always be with a tig torch in my hand.

My least favourite was overhead welding with an arc.

The most boring was monotonous production welding with the mig.

And as with shooting skills, practice makes perfect when welding.

    Cheers

Great deposition rate and appearance but boring as something really boring to use.

5mm C6h'es are fun....not sure you can even get 6mm anymore?

Or any heavy vertical stick welding....actually even with E71....Vertical is my favorite out of position position.

Been doing ticketed work with 316L flux cored wire the last few weeks building a big frame thing....would add pic but Im guessing commercially sensitive.
Similar to useing E71 but any splatter sticks like the proverbial shit to a blanket being ss which means lots of time with a small cold chisel sharpened like a scalple to remove without scratching like you would with a scraper.
Whole job off to be soda blasted.

    Anyone done any submerged arc?
full pen on un prepped butt welds up to 40mm plate, tandam 600amp powerpacks, feed wire like a roll of No8.

When you have a cock up and blow threw it takes a while to fill the hole with the stick!

It is basicly do test peices till you get your settings right then thats it cos you cant see what the hell is going on under the granulated flux. Hence submerged arc.
