Got all the bits from Jaycar other than the 2K ohm potentiometer which was not available, only a 1K or 5K ohm. It is a 12VDC system. The potentiometer is there for speed control I understand.
I used the 1K thinking it would be OK but it doesn't really work with only the top range running at about 40% full speed. Im definitely no electronics tech so hoped for the best. Bridging out the voltage regulator gives full speed so no fault with the fan motor or voltage supply.

You will need 2k to get the voltage range, or put a second 330 Ohm resistor in parallel with the first to restore the ratio.

Another option is a second 1k pot if the current draw is too high but you should be fine.
