    Empty old Buildings on SH 4 between National park and Erua

    When i went to Dannevirke to get my pup last week went passed these buildings between National park and Erua they look like a old school or something. anyone on here know what these buildings where used for. school, prison, nuthouse. they just seem out of place for the area. was just Curious

    I think you're talking about the old Waikune Prison actually, minimum security facility, closed down in the mid 80's and the land went back to the Iwi...

    Seams like such a waste of some good buildings just wasting away. would make great accommodation so close to the snow and on a main road.

    Friend has a place in National Park she would like to sell. Rates are bloody expensive for what it is

    Sadly, that's typical of a lot of stuff that goes back to the tribes. They could get cranking and run business out of such facilities, even seasonal ones like ski hires etc would be employment for some. But no, they'll just let it rot and stick their hand out for more welfare instead... Such is the way here.

    Yea it would, but today it would be health and safety nightmare.

    Better use would be high fence with 11000 volts ,place a few weapons in there then put every gang member in the country currently in jail in there, last one alive if any get to go back to jail.

    The old prison down National Park been turned into accommodation I think, Keith Elliott VC was a CE minister down there many yonks ago
