    Ferry crossing gun safety

Have just handed in my notice finish up in two weeks
and i have a week and a half to myself before I start my new job, I was thinking of going on a little adventure in my new truck to the south island.
what's the deal with taking my rifle on the Ferry? Just leave it in the car?
    Cheers Terry clynes

Think this has been covered before.
But you hand it into the ferry guys.
Sure someone will be here soon with the right terminology

Officially you hand them over at the terminal.

Do it properly, hand it in.
If the worst does then happen you shouldn't have any issues with insurance, reporting it and it doesn't start to fuck it up for everyone else.
You see what's happening with couriers, ferry is a private company and don't have to allow the carriage of them so don't give them reasons to stop.

As Sib has said. Bluebridge actually advised a group of us several years ago that was the most secure option as vehicle decks are locked during passage, so thats what weve done ever since. May not comply but having being faced with complete bewilderment by crew on the interislander once and spending nearly an hour trying to find the person to get it back in Picton it seems less stressful for everyone.
Personally I would be more concerned about campervan gas bottles.

That's a fair comment I guess. Their rules are only as good as their systems that back then.

I've had the same isses when flying. Get seriously pissed off when you catch your rifles out the corner of your eye coming out on the conveyor belt

    What SiB says.

One time on Bluebridge I was overcome with a sense of responsibility and handed the bolts over to the purser. What a bloody drama to locate him after the ship berthed, and get them back! Ended up feeling like I was some sort of deviant who caused them a lot of hassle.

Never bothered. Make sure they are out of sight and vehicle is locked. If anything was to happen, I would question why the ferry organisation hadn't kept my vehicle secure. As they quote that we are not allowed on the vehicle decks "for security reasons".

Keep them in your car. When you hand them in the get put in the luggage cart and towed in with the ride on and are hardly secure in anyway
