    Firearms lawyer

Anyone know of a good firearms lawyer in the north island other than Nicholas Taylor?
    Cheers

I have a A cat and a Ar15 and a couple of other firearms, a empty 20 round mag was found in the same room as the firearms

Excuse my ignorance, is that really an issue? I thought the posession of a magazine wasnt an issue until it was in the firearm, which then made the firearem e-cat? Am I mistaken?

That was my impression as well otherwise you should need an e cat license to purchase the magazine

Do you have another rifle that isn't a semi that can take the magazine?
if not cops who aren't brought up with firearms, townies etc. get indoctrinated in the drivel that all guns are bad (ala Chris Cahill,) see the mag and Ar15, put 2 and 2 together and say naughty. Especially new cops-doubt there would be much leeway on anything from them.
From the letter of the law you are probably ok but if you don't have another firearm that can stay legal with that magazine I can see where it gets messy.
That would be their justification in their mind

Why were the cops or whoever able to find the magazine?
Were you getting a restricted firearm inspection?

Where is the u/l firearm issue. An empty mag does not conevrt an A class into an u/l firearm.

This sounds like a bit of a 'lets make some case law' case...

I suspect the police's interpretation of the rule on E cat mag capacity is that ownership of a highcap mag = intent to breach the law, which is somewhat of a different interpretation than normal human beings. Part of the issue appears to be the desire to MSU (make shit up) as they go along and as it suits them at the time... Also legislation just hasn't developed at the rate of firearms design (partly because of people taking an issue with police hierarchy types wanting to stop law abiding firearms owners from owning items that are allowed under the legislation and going on to develop things that the legislation wasn't designed to cover).

I would say yes as that is perfectly legal.
If you only have a firearm that would become restricted once the mag is fitted, then they would look at that as intent, but is that illegal?
