Firearms: What did you have a go on first?

Mine was a .22LR Röhm revolver in 1984. I was so young I could barely hold it out in front of me and my Dad had to pull the hammer back for me.

With his guidance, it was great to see the empty can of Castle Lager rock slightly with a neat little grey hole in it.

My dad's Lithgow Arms single shot .22 more than five decades ago. I still have it.
    Ryan and Shearer like this.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Mates overunder 12g. I managed to let both barrels go at once and not having much idea of shouldering correctly, gave myself a slap on the cheek.
On the up side, there was sweet f-all left of the squirrel I was aiming at

I cant remember what the first rifle I shot was.

But I do remember the first time I fired a .303. Was fairly young and dad was saying it'd blow our shoulder off and me and my brother didnt want to fire it but I lost the paper siccors rock. I aimed at a pond down the gully closed my eyes waiting for my sore sore shoulder and yanked the trigger. Nothing. Said its not working. Dad fired it and said pull harder. Loaded another round same thing shitting my self eyes closed yanked the crap out of it boom!.

I dont like him for that and dont think I'll ever tell some young person shooting there first centerfire it'll blow there shoulder off. But good memory still clear as the day it happened in my mind

I can only imagine, the weight, recoil and everything! But... it is what it is, get accustomed to it earlier - the better!

Dad had an air rifle and air pistol when I was a kid, I used to line up my toy cars (only the old ones I didn't like anymore) and take pot shots at them across the lawn.

First centrefire was probably a WW2-era 303 on a mates farm when I was at uni, I was a bit of a late starter with the hunting thing.

After an air rifle, some sort of single shot 22 at the local small bore club.
First centre fire was a target 303, first hunting centre fire a BSA CF2 243.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
