Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers and things to do.

I booked 10 days off around Easter cos if you put in 3 you get ten off. Score.

I was going to do a 10 day hunting trip.

My girlfriend caught wind and now plans have changed. I am no longer doing a 10 day hunting trip.

I am now going to be going to the Glaciers. For 5 days.

Any advice on things to do apart from look at the ice before they melt.

    Cheers.

Lake matherson down to road towards the coast has a track to walk around it. Flight over the glaciers/ landing on the glaciers. Guided walk on the glacier. Heaps of handy hunting. Chopper onto the tops for a couple of days hunting with your mrs. just a few things.

    +2 to Lake Matheson.
Easy walk, stunning scenery, you’ll score brownie points.
    Magic part of the country.
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Okarito is nice for a Redskin. Used to good mussels around the rocks.
    Fishing around lake maporika
Plenty of handy chamois around Franz. Alex knob could be worth a look.

It needs to be at least a 10 yo single malt though no point in putting 20,000 year old ice in a youngster blend.

When we drove through that part I had the idea of having some in my drink but we had guns in the van as per usual, turns out you cant just drive right up to the glacier! kinda ruined my good plan!

No you need to plan ahead, when we did it there was quite a lot of walking involved. Fox was better than franz j. Lake matheson is so picturesque it deserves a visit and tipple as well.
We chose tomatin 15 yo and a 16 bushmills but there are so many choices. This wasnt a hunting trip but a pie tour of the south island after dunsandel won the best pie quite a few years ago.

bushman full strength deet and dont put it near anything plastic or it will melt it......eat lots of vegemite/marmite/promite/vege spread NOW and keep eating it. take long sleaved clothing light gloves, and hope like heck your Mrs doesnt swell or itch too much when the little black hoards invade or you will have miserable 10 days.
