    Garage Inspiration

So I recently bought my first home and will be moving in in a few weeks. Having my priorities right of course the first thing that needs sorting out is the garage. Its currently a blank canvas so I'm looking for some inspiration on setting it up some with some good solid work benches and storage etc and getting it right the first time. It won't be for reloading as that will hopefully be allowed in the spare bedroom.

Hopeing some of you could share you ideas, pics etc. Cheers

Pallet racking for storage mate, you wont regret it. Got mine from SECOND HAND SHELVING - RACKING & SHELVING - Surplus Traders and they were pretty much brand spanking new.

I also got a dexion longspan workbench made up as well - highly recommend for a solid working surface.

Worked out a fair bit cheaper than the bunnings pallet racking

Pick up some pallets. Good timber for bench legs etc. Do spend a couple of $ and put some decent ply over top of bench. Makes things tidy and easy to find

Think lots of light over the bench areas. Think extra power outlets at back of bench. Both easy to DIY provides you’re careful and double check. Find a hunting sparky mate to clarify what’s possible

Think security. Windows, door and vehicle door. Keep out the creeps

    Think a wee extinguisher too

    And a fridge.......

And definitely some large speakers, and old amplifier and hook up cable to your iPod.

Strong bench as big as you can make it and at least 6-700mm deep. I made this one up before I moved in, had my priorities right.

Use the walls where you can, cupboards and shelves are key along with a bit of a plan where things will sit. Put things back in the same spot and it might help keep things tidy (might......)

Nz32 is onto it, deep benches, ones in my shed are a waste of time and space. Thinking ahead for things of ke grinder and allowing enough room around it for sharpening spades and the such. (Not jammed up against a wall like mine)

Yep got the fridge sorted already.
Will definitely get the place well wired up for lighting and sockets first then look at lining most of it in ply. Was thinking of welding up some 40 or 50mm RHS for the bench frame with some solid wood on top.

Thanks for the link to the shelving, looks like a good option.

Security, hadn't thought of that yet but will have to add that to the list.

Lights lights lights. Those LED strip lights off aliexpress are great value. 5m lengths for the price of a beer

Other point it get a few power boards up on the wall. You always need more sockets. And think about lighting, the 5m led strips you can get off ebay are good for extra lighting when you need it.

Yep liking what NZ32 has done. The steel bench section for a welding area is on to it and loving how you store the power tools.

How much space (metres x metres) have you got to play with, and does the ceiling area have any storage potential, ie in ceiling trusses etc/

for a decent welding bench get some 8mm plate and weld some 65mm angle bracing on the bottom side then hinge it onto the wall and use a rope and pulley setup to lift it up out of the way when not needed saves space and you have a decent sized bench when its needed.
