Govt is looking at ban dangerous cars...

    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-z...odels.amp.html

No kidding, sorry. What we've been saying about banning dangerous cars... Well, someone seems to have been listening after all...

I must say I actually agree with not allowing low safety rating cars into NZ, but there are a lot of safe cars driven by muppets!

Missed approach, remove everything pre 1990 including trucks unless the owner pays for a re-inspection/re certification to prove roadworthiness. Then progressively creep the date up until 2005-ish depending on model as this is when a lot of the crash protections became standardised across the fleet...

It's a big call but there are some absolute death traps in the older fleet that just need to be gone from the fleet - you see these in some of the multi-crash victim people mover destroyed type crashes where the people mover just disintegrates, and things like older vans and light trucks where the driver and front seat passenger instantly get two feet shorter after a head on.

My good lady ownd a 1996 corolla and its a great wee car and her pride and joy. Nevet let her down.
If JA wants to ban it then I would not like to be within arms reach of my lady if I were her.

Why not just ban (by order in council), them out right and make the now criminal owners line up in front of the armed govt enforcement branch hand them in for a payout amount yet to be determined if any......trust us
The precedent has already been set

Lets get this straight, they want to ban affordable cars. Not all can afford the latest greatest cotton wool wraped car, or some of us just want a tin shitbox to get from A to B and back. Elf and safety gone nuts. This government has banned (or trying to)some guns, plastic bags, free speach, some cars, 100 kph, oil exploration. We are fucked

At this rate we may as well find ourselves some ladas. Soon they'll be all we're allowed to own and will have a 6/5 crash rating because the party said it did.

Well you all know who not to vote for at next years election but like history tells us, many of you will forget todays issue shortly. Jacinda and Eugenie are strong on agenda and pushing ahead, no holds barred. Recreational hunters appear not to want a party that favours them (hunters) and yet we all have two votes to use? Well that appears what happened at the last election? Just an opinion.

The left doing what it always does, ban, ban, ban, tax, tax, tax, regulate, regulate, regulate.

Don't expect anything different. Cindy has a long list.

    I have a landrover from the 1960's
Its never been in a crash.
How can it be dangerous if its survived this long?

They want a newer fleet, more economical, less carbon emissions. Someone have a coal burner locomobile for sale?

Norsk your right to ask this question has been revoked by the committee and you are to be sent for re training so that you will become a more compliant and less questioning member of the sheeple. Mate this government is out of control.

some of us older guys will remember when we had a lifetime FAL (red book) and a lifetime driver lisence (black book)
they did the trial run on FAL for photo ID and 10 year licence (with an increased fee) first to iron out the kinks without upsetting too many voters .
once yhe dust had settled and they had streamlined the process they went ahead and did the exact same to drivers
so yes we are the guinea pigs omce they get past taking our toys without too much fuss they will move on to the general population.....
wouldnt be surprised if its done in a more sneaky way tho , say ban all vehicles that dont have a catalytic converter etc.
ban private ownership of boats over a certain size (cos we all know regreational fshermen are why the fish stocks are depleted right?)
