    GUNWORKS

    you bloody good bastards

Took my little old Browning BL-22 to Gunworks on Friday when it was hosing down with rain and I was bored to get tube sorted out from 15 to 10 shot as per bullshit law reform. Was told they were busy, would take about 2 weeks. Yep, no problem, I was in no hurry for it.

Got a call this afternoon, all done, pick it up. Was working over that side of town, so dropped in and grabbed it.

Excellent job, very neat, fast and friendly.

Well done them guys and gals at Gunworks.

Please explain what they did to it. It looks the same as unaltered. Have they shortened the tube so it only holds 10 or have they put in a permanent plug to restrict the capacity. Our understanding is that plugging is not legal ( our arms officer is no help in this ).

Gunworks don't plug them, they cut the desired length off the end (the muzzle end, obviously) of the inner magazine tube, and replace it with a piece of solid brass rod....so it is physically and irreversibly shortened to hold no more then 10......and no,at this point Gunsmiths have still not been appointed by the Police to do alterations.....

The one saving grace is that it appears they dropped the "looks like" form the description of magazines. So as long as your rifle mag holds 10 rounds or less it is allowed to "look like " it holds more. As long as it CANNOT be undone to hold more than 10. So you can have a 10 round magazine glued to a drum or banana if you want that look....

So these tube mag mods as described means the butt loading BA 22 etc are also still able to be made to comply and still function.

Yes, no difference from the outside, it doesnt change its looks at all.

Must have also shortened or replaced the spring, I got given a little bag with a section of brass tube and a spring in it.

Not yet, I just took it in last week cause it was raining and I had nothing else to do, I dont care about claiming the cost from the cops, all that does is put it on a database somewhere.

Because it is a brass rod, it was a bit more pricey, but because of the job done removing a section of the rod and pinning in a section of solid brass into it and correcting the spring length, well worth it in my opinion to have the end result not detracting from the original form in any way. Cost was $260.

Im a firm believer in "get it done once, get it done right", sometimes that costs a little more. I have no problem paying whatever it costs for a quality job and professional service.

Nice job, well done. Same as waiting for changes to be paid for. Even though I can afford to pay, just out of principle and a goal to help the buy back $$$ burst the government bubble.

The Law says not more than ten rounds, no mention of how. Fitting a spacer rod inside the mag inner tube is entirely satisfactory as long as it is epoxied or welded to the steel end cap.

Specs will in fact be issued shortly,as to how it can be done.....people in the trade were canvassed as the people passing the laws have no idea of such things....

Not to be nit-picky , but the law says "not more than ten rounds". If I choose to do the job myself and its not as per the mythical specs sheet but is permanant - I sure as shit wont be undoing it to suit anyone . The Police do not make the law - their job is to see it is adhered to.

I imagine the GW job is very professional - thats what they do for a living and every job they have done for me has been excellant . Mine will be lacking in finesse but just as effective .

Its the inner tube, I dont think finesse will matter or make a scrap of difference to its function. I dont see any reason you cant do it yourself if you are confident to do it. As you say, as long as its effective, and yes, keeps the police happy.

    Good luck with your mod.
