    H&F comments?

Hi all, I frequently see posts in the forum that are not exactly praising H & F, is anybody able to enlighten me as to why some arenít too happy with that chain of stores?

( IMAY have asked that question earlier when I was having issues logging onto the site)

The gist of it seems to be that after the Chch shootings and the uproar about centerfire semi's they were one of the stores and organisations saying "we don't need them, they're too dangerous," etc.

This after they'd been selling them. Looked very opportunistic on their part.

Also introduced me to a term I'd never heard of known as virtue signalling.(retch)

Oamaru is still small enough to have that old fashioned owner operator atmosphere which is nice but all of the HnF stores I have been into in the larger centers give me the heeby jeebies, bunch of greasy salespeople talking out their ass to make sales to customers that dont know any better, I used to think Guncity was bad but HnF are neck and neck with them now. They are bloody useless if you want to try claim warranties etc also, big chain store take your money and dont give a shit what happens after that sort of thing.

They also made a push in their submission for the blanket banning of all online firearm sales. Clearly acting based purely on greed and self-interest, rather than any remotely plausible excuse for safety.. considering online sales have even more scrutiny than in-person.

But as online has never been a big part of their business, and no doubt they feel that every rifle sold on trademe etc is somehow taking away from their 'entitlement' to profits.. they would just be happier if online went away and you were forced to buy from their stores every time instead.

@Ryan_Songhurst Have to admit your right. A few years ago went into H&F in Cromwell . was looking at a scope, sales person came over to see if he could help, asked him what was his best cash price, he said we don't do cash discounts. We walked out
    Quin'ie may be the exception

    Here you go

    19 March ∑
HUNTING & FISHING NEW ZEALAND SUPPORTS
BAN ON MILITARY STYLE ASSAULT RIFLES
The board of Hunting & Fishing NZ, along with its executive team, owner operators and hundreds of
employees across New Zealand, express our deepest condolences to New Zealand’s Muslim community
and to the city of Christchurch for the tragic loss brought about by the unspeakable act of terror and
violence. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our fellow New Zealanders in condemning this cowardly
attack, and in grief and solidarity with the loved ones of all those killed and injured.
We are ready to play our part.
On Friday, we requested our stores across New Zealand to remove all military-style assault weapons from
our shelves. As far as we are concerned, they will never return.
We support any government measure to permanently ban such weapons. While we have sold them in the
past to a small number of customers, last week’s events have forced a reconsideration that has led us to
believe such weapons of war have no place in our business -- or our country. Irrespective of gun law
changes now or in the future, Hunting & Fishing New Zealand stores will no longer stock military-style
assault firearms of any classification or category - whether rimfire, shot shell and centrefire configuration.
We invite all retailers and wholesalers in the sector to follow suit.
We also support the idea of a full government buyback of such weapons.
This should not and cannot affect the legitimate use of sporting semi-automatic shotguns and rimfires for
hunting and pest control in New Zealand, which still have their place.
Hunting & Fishing New Zealand will also cease to sell firearms online and call for this practice to be
    banned in New Zealand.
Furthermore, we support the investigation into the establishment of a national register of firearms to
monitor the location and ownership of firearms in New Zealand. The serial number, model and date of
purchase for all firearms sold by Hunting & Fishing New Zealand have been recorded with the identity of
Firearms licence holders as a standard legal requirement.
Hunting & Fishing New Zealand is passionate about supporting and encouraging outdoor recreation
pursuits in New Zealand. This includes camping, tramping, fishing and hunting. We believe such pursuits
are part of our inheritance as Kiwis, regardless of background. We do not believe common sense gun laws
represent any form of threat to this way of life.
We look forward to participating in future Government led consultations to establish legislative
improvements that will protect this country we are proud to be a part of.
Hunting & Fishing New Zealand is a retail cooperative group comprising thirty seven owner operated
stores throughout New Zealand, all of whom, with our staff, place absolute priority on the safety and
wellbeing of our customers, and the New Zealand public.

That was what did it for me when they did that. I'll never walk in a Hugging and Fisting shop again. Bunch of pricks. They should rebrand to Fishing and Clothing and get out of the firearms market all together.

There's something missing from their stores .

They have all the displays and wood panelling for miles. It looks slick, but feels empty and contrived.

It all looks the part, but i seldom spend any money in there, just something missing about the vibe.

Not a really authentic place like Elio's in Dunedin.

@Finnwolf have a read of Kiwi Greg’s post....that’s the issue right there!
They sold us down the river out of greed! I personally won’t buy again ever in there stores!
What I will do is use them as a sizing rake and try on cloths before buying on line....or just go in then say year that’s right wrong store you sold us down the river! Then walk out!

Did a deal with H&F Palmy over the phone on a rifle and a bunch of gear after they refused to ship it to the Hutt Valley H&F. Drove up from Wellington, only one other customer in there at 9:30am and I still had to wait 35-40 mins before the two older blokes behind the counter would talk to me(both helping one person, chatting about ammo or some such), and another 45 minutes for them to put the gear together(and find the rifle box), and then they tried to charge me full price for the lot. Didn't believe that the bloke had done me a deal. Then they told me if anything is wrong with it I have to take it back to Palmy instead of any other store.

Took an hour and a half in the end to pick up a done deal. Bloody useless.

Oh and then the cleaning kit broke after the first use, and the bipod broke a week or two in.
