    HAPPY NEW YEAR

To all the NZHS community. May your powder be dry, may your barrels be hot, may your freezer be full of your favourite game meat and may you and your loved ones be safe and happy. Mark my words, it is going to be a great year.

What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Happy New Year to you all, also.

And I think @Rushy has got it right. 2018 is going to be a great year for NZ hunters ... except for the dry summer maybe.
But I have seen some good red heads already and taken a spiker that was hard and stripped in December.
Spring was good ( but short ) in the Canterbury high country, so they should have put on plenty of heavy timber.
Numbers in 2017 were very high in some of the more out of the way places.
We are hunting in the best of times since the 70s ( not that I can remember them ).
But as a young keen hunter starting out on his own in the late 80s it was bloody hard work even finding a deer that the helicopters had missed.
Now you are able to see multiple animals on DoC areas practically every hunt.

So make the most of 2018 and get out there every chance you can.
Hopefully some decent heads will start showing up in "Stags shot 2018" soon.

Another day of house guests and I'm back into the hunting myself.
    Cheers

I am starting the new year with a new job, which at the age of 56 , came as a nice surprise. Onwards and upwards
