    Health and Safety Gone Mad???

Is it just happening to me or this world gone mad in the health and safety front?

Ive just had a client report about our time on their site, seems one of their operators are complaining that we stopped at a stop sign for 10+ seconds and because of the size and geometry of our vehicle and the site layout, we nudged forward 6inches to a foot carefully to check clear again and stopped because a site vehicle was coming.
No different that of the rules you use on a reduced vision stop intersection on the road

Fine so he has put in a report and I respond, with a accurate diagram and a 250 word 3/4 page incident report, job done.

Nah Job not done, seems the fuckwits at the top, cant get their head round what has happened, that no accident has happened, no near miss has accrued( trucks were over 3 meters away, for fucks sake we are closer on road) and no evasive action braking or steering taken place, and now I have to sit down in my own time this afternoon and write out a longer 750 word plus essay on the incident because the boss is still incapable of understanding it.

If he can't understand it I'm guessing your original report was not as good as you think it was.

You're lucky. My leg got totally smashed a couple of years ago at work.
Not reported as far as I know, no investigation nothing. It wasn't a little one either, 4 months off work, 13 screws and 2 plates

Yes Striker it has gone nuts. More bureaucracy just to add to the inefficiencies.

"help me understand what specific , futher information you require".
forcing bosses to rethink n rephrase their requests more carefully sometimes makes them rethink their original request, possibly even read properly what was first submitted!

And you're shocked by this? I was on site with another colleague and he tripped over a farmers dog, no injury just a laugh and back to work. Bang - full incident report needed, all the way to the CEO

Health and Safety will be the death of Auz, looks like NZ is headed the same way.

The hoops one has to jump through to perform the simplest task here are incredible. You canít even fart without having an approved risk management plan.

Donít get me wrong I will do everything possible to keep construction crews and contractors safe on a project that Iím responsible for but there are times when you think this is ludicrous.

Yup, creating jobs without creating productive work in order to cut down the cost of accidents. The cost of this will outstrip the savings many times over. All the while removing personal responsibility and dumbing down the workforce by removing common sense.

    Bingo.

Overheads increase to the point where it is no longer economically viable to continue and employers are forced explore other options. Job cuts, outsource production etc.

What ever happened to a bit of common sense and personal accountability in the work place….

That is it, in a nutshell. Jobs created in safety to justify stupidity.
Because of it, everything takes twice as long and costs 3 times as much.

I agree, it is nuts in Australia and will be the economic death of it if things do not change.

People running around saying you cant do things make twice as much coin as the people that actually get things done.
