Saw it, I don't think he started the fire. The authorities appear to me to just wanted an easy scapegoat.

The young hunter that got charged by the fire service (60K)for starting a fire, which he says he didn't start it. Has been let off the fine but is still accused of starting it.
The young guy wants his name cleared. Mexican standoff. But he is happy that he isn't paying the 60k. Heap of money for anyone.
Good lesson for us all to be careful with fires.
Was only a short story, Mike Hosking too busy looking in the mirror to worry about it.

Here's the story for those with a internet connection

Young hunter wanting his name cleared over North Otago blaze - TV News Video | TVNZ

NRFA want to prosecute, only because they have a mandate to recoup costs where applicable. Kevin isnt a bad rooster, hes the spokes person for NRFA in this interview. Its up to each RFA to see if there's a case to chaseand if so then its passed on to NRFA to actually prosecute and recoup costs.

This is one of parts I not keen on when the "merger" occurs.

Its time for young Dodds to walk away and let it go. He has been forgiven the $60k. You don't have to attend every argument that you are invited to.

I seem to recall that that was the 'evidence' found, but not the chambering of the firearm that they were using.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

Yip I can attest to life being a bit harder with shit on file, very petty shit too I may add. Most issues arise outside of this country

$60,000 fighting a fire to save gorse on an island in the Waitaki. I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why that gorse needed saving.
I have never seen a "have you ever been accused of starting a fire or a have you ever refused to pay an account for which other people have mistakenly held you accountable question before"...?

If they aren't pursuing the account there is nothing to disclose. If there is no criminal charge then there is nothing to disclose.

I understand that the young fella might like an apology, but his position is equally as unsubstantiable either way in this argument. He can no more prove his innocence that they can prove his guilt.

Why would they apologise...? And there isn't a file.... a fire service investigation don't count for squat...

I have no idea how this became public... but I am guessing the young fella might have had something to do with that as well. Can't have you cake and eat it too... Protecting your reputation after your own public disclosure seems a bit late.....
