I have a Spare HDMI in, I do not want to do it via a PC but would like the ability to stream content from my phone as well

Been looking at "Chromecast Ultra" but I'm a bit of a tech tard when it comes to streaming
Actually I'm a bit simple full stop

We just bought a shit old laptop that has HDMI out on it and run it through the tv. We never use anything else, havnt seen a nz tv ad for years. Mrs can stream channels from home, we have Netflix, and YouTube takes care of the rest.

Prefer not to have an extra PC if I can get away with it hence something like Chromecast

There are a heap of cheap Linux/Android boxes around for bugger all. They basically use the chips from top end cell phones.

+1 for Chromecast. You only need the ultra if you have a 4k tv. I think the fact that you use your phone or tablet to control it rather than a remote is a plus as you can't lose the remote. The best Google has done well to make it simple to set up and use. Your not locked into Android to use it, ios is fully supported as well.

Not sure, but you can install all sorts of apps and games. Can also connect keyboard/mouse/game controllers/storage/...

Comes with Android but can easily change to Linux.

Android tv let's you stream all the paid stuff, you buy the box and load the apps on it.
Heaps of them in trade me.

For how long it remains legal is anyone's guess though....
