    Ivan Mauger flying mile

Not everyone that knew him liked him, but a total legend nonetheless. RIP

My old man raced speedway bikes at Aranui with those guys and after it was closed we use to head out to Ruapuna speedway every Saturday night for donkey's years.
When Ivan Mauger returned to NZ and raced there with Ole Olsen and other overseas riders the place was packed out. The old man would get us into the pits to drool over the super stars and there bikes.
Shit the smell of speedway bikes exhaust fumes would still give me a hard on.

Went to watch a mate race in Bucket Racer class last Sunday.
The smell of Castrol R UCL brought back memories of Speedway at Western Springs when I was 10 years old.
An odor that never fails to refresh these memories.
Briggs, Moore and Mauger were all heroes back then.
