Just had a chat with arms officer.

Had a wee visit from our district arms officer sorting out my licence renewal.
(If you are a few months off having to renew your licence and endorsements I would advise starting the process now.)

He mentioned among other things new penalties for poaching. I wasn't sure if he said they are now law or about to be, but they are pretty hefty.

Immediate confiscation of everything in your possession including dogs, vehicles and equipment no matter whos it is, are a start.
Fines and jail time that rival any serious crime.
If you are a poacher and considered professional and caught, you are fucked.
If you go spotlighting in daddys truck and are caught, you are fucked.

    Good job I reckon.😆

if you are poaching and get caught you deserve to be ......."fornicated with"
if you are poaching you deserve to be "fornicated with"
its not a fit and proper purpose after all.

Who makes the ultimate decision for the confiscation ?and the sentencing?
The police and then the judge ? Or just the judge? What about poachers caught with gun and no firearm licence? Just a slap on the wrist as seen in the past?

My licence expired in early April.
I applied and paid for my new one late March.
To cut a long story short. I received my new licence in August......

Possession of a firearm without a license is a whole different crime with separate penalties.

Fines and confiscation of equipment has always been the peanality for poaching, they are just deciding to enforce it now.

I am curious about the heli poaching question as well. I suspect that it would be hard to catch them, even harder to prove and we will likely never see it happen.

Good, just in time for the influx of whitebaiting spotlighters.

One could wonder if Waro operation is legal poaching?
