Just performed my First Cesarean on a sheep !!

Just performed my First Cesarean on a sheep !!
Ewe was prolapsed, and starting to get distressed, nothing for it but to put her down.
Then had 2 minutes to open her up and retrieve the lambs.
Found the uterus and opened it up, pulled out 1 then another and quick check and what another one !!!
2 ewes and a ram. Now having to feed them all, I'm not feeding AM feeds !!!

    Congrats!!

I had a really old ewe 2 years ago with severe sleepy sickness etc. couldn't stand and I was feeding ketol and another supplement a couple times a day. Eventually she gave up on the will to live.

I called the vet again and requested he do a terminal Caesarean. He declined instaead options to give her steroids and oxytocin to bring on natural labour and speed lamb lung development.

The next day I and a mate had to manually birth 4 lambs that did not make it due to a prolonged labour. They were all yellowed but not rotting.

I had to put the ewe down the next day anyway.

I can't help wondering if I may have had a chance of saving some of those quads if the vet had done the terminal caesarean the day I requested.

Next time I'd probably have a go myself.
