    That's unfortunate about the chick dying. But awesome to see a couple nice healthy kereru around your house.

    What are the dead ones feet and beak like?
    Looks like a sparrow hawk from that angle.
    Overkill is still dead.

    we get quite a few in the bush around our place, but they seem to have a death wish. Often launch themselves out of trees to fly across the road to bush on other side .... but the end up crossing the road at about roof rack height. Nearly been clobbered a few times. If its a truck or larger vehicle they's be toast

    i was at a hut on stewart island. huge thump and i wandered outside to found one of them had flown straight into the wall. dead on impact.
    and no, we didnt eat it but it was a bloody good size

    Had a pair nesting in a mac near our house for a few years,last year a hawk swooped down and took their chick. Then they dissappeared
