Not yet....nominees will be along shortly. One mention goes to the gent / pedestrian who was hit by a train on Colombo st in chch. Colombo street has an over bridge over the tracks and no pedestrian access that I can think of so not sure how the train made it to the footpath......

Anyone here work for the ED (A&E)? Or first responders? I am sure there will be tales to tell.

I thought Darwin awards were a think of the past, the amount of bubble wrap and red tape makes it impossible to do stupid things.... Ok maybe not impossible but a bit harder

Still quite easy to overcome with alcohol and determination. in 2015 a young guy was hit by a van in the main st of Milton while mooning traffic.

I am not an ambitious person, but for a while when I played paintball, I did have an ambition to moon the opposing team and get away with it.
Never took enough alcohol/brave pills to overcome my common sense/decency/ raw fear.

I made an effort for the first award of 2019 yesterday.
Suffice to say that a 57 yr old mixed with a dirt bike and alchohol (along with a 40 year break from riding), can only have one result

It is hard to do even make lunch with a busted flipper. Ouch !!

Sorry. Doesn't count. Lucky for you. To qualify for an award the recipient must remove themselves from the gene pool so they cannot pass the "stupid" gene on. Usually through death of castration. Now if you had managed to rip your plums off on the steering head.......

But we are glad to see it is just a broken flipper. Something like that could have been a lot worse.

I read several of the books a few years ago flying home from Perth (days before proper in seat entertainment)

Kept me awake for the whole flight

To be awarded it needed to be confirmed as well - oddly enough the USA featured a lot

NZ had one - Dunedin - steepest street and a rubbish bin - scarifes ...

    Here it is https://darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin2001-12.html
